Sunday Run to Stonehaven

The unstable weather continues and only a small group turned out on Sunday for the run to Stonehaven.
Bright to start with, the four of us set off into the breeze up by Hornycross and Memus. With dark clouds and dipping temperatures as we approached Edzell we did well to get that far without getting soaked. We put on the waterproofs before continuing on to Fettercairn  getting caught by a couple of showers but not too bad. The wind  however was making us work a bit harder as we went around by Auchenblae, Glenfarquhar, and Brae of Glenbervie. Finally descending into Stonehaven it was still not clear enough to see the sea and before going into the town we went into the garden centre for some lunch (good size fruit scones). After the break we headed through the town and found that we were unable to go up Bervie Brae as it was closed to all traffic and blocked with a high gate. Climbing out of town towards the bypass, we spotted a minor road signposted to Dunnottar Castle, so we tried that and it took us out in between the folly and the castle. From there it was down the main coast road with a tail wind and in the sunshine. It didn't take long to reach Montrose, and the wind was more or less in our favour as we made for home by Hillside and Bridge of Dun. It got a bit damp again on the final stage past Rescobie and into Forfar, but too late in the day to bother us.

With Dykehead being closed, the Wednesday night run will be to Memus.
The run next Sunday is an impromptu leaving at 9am from the Leisure Centre.

Sunday Run to Kirkmichael

The earlier 9am starts have been greeted with a return to cold wintry weather and Sunday didn't exactly buck the trend. Six of us however turned up for the run to Kirkmichael. At first we seemed to have a tail wind leaving Forfar, but as we progressed around by Alyth Den and up over the 3 Cairns road by Tullymurdoch and the wind farm, it was clearly turning against us.

Charlies front mech
The day was bright however and we soon arrived down at the Blackwater Bridge where we were delayed a while due to a problem with Charlie's derailleur. He had to remove the front changer and shorten his chain. Soon after getting started again, Tom turned off to go round by Glenisla while the rest of us continued along to Kirkmichael. On route we met Dave Fawcett coming the other way and gathered that he'd already been to Kirmichael. We stopped a while at the cafe for lunch before returning home. Coming up through Blacklunans we noticed that the Glenshee Eco Camp was advertising a bakehouse on certain days of the week; could be a suitable cafe stop.
At Brewlands there was a short debate as to whether we went home by Glenisla or Kilry Hill. Tempting as it was we chose Glenisla with a tail wind.

The B run on Sunday started at 10am and went to Edzell
The Wednesday night run (tonight) is to Roundyhill.

As Dykehead is no longer open, it has been removed from the pub runs rota. see the link to the runs list at the top of the page.

The run Next Sunday is to Stonehaven leaving at 9am.
The Sunday B run will leave at 10am contact Mary Ward or Raymond Moug if interested.

Wednesday night Run

Following the heavy snow early in the week, it was still rather chilly on Wednesday night so instead of heading over Finavon Hill to the Hotel, they instead took a route out by Horny Cross and Justinhaugh. It was a fine night for cycling albeit chilly.

The Run on Sunday is to Clatterin Brig and please note that this starts at 9am from the leisure centre.
The Wednesday night run will be to Glamis.

The 100k Audax organised by Ron last Tuesday had to be abandoned due to snow, so he is hoping to run it this Tuesday instead.

Sunday Run to St Cyrus

Club members were involved in a few activities over the weekend.
On Saturday, Dave Fawcett and Dave Husband traveled to Edinburgh to take part in the 200k "Nippy Sweetie" Audax Event. The weather was fine,  the route  took them up to Perth , over by  Crieff to Comrie then over the hill to Braco where they made their way round by Kinbuck and Bridge of Allan. The going wasn't too hard but after they climbed up through Clackmannan they had to work hard into a stiff breeze all the way along the Forth and back into Auld Reekie.
On Sunday Ian Matheson was involved in a sportif based near Callander. The demanding route took them over the Duke's Pass and around Loch Katerine twice before heading round by Menteith and up the hill past Kippen then over by the Fintry hills before returning.
Meanwhile the club run on Sunday was to St Cyrus. The group first made their way round by House of Dun then up by Montrose to St Cyrus.
