Wednesday Evening Pub Run

Four of us, Dave,Gus,Ian, and Charlie, set off from Lowson Avenue into the now predictable westerly breeze.
The Strathmore Arms at Glamis was the destination and we took the winter route out by Drumgley, to Roundyhill then down the main road to Glamis. Ian's getting fitter so we were out of puff by the time we got there and glad of a refreshment. Ron, Alan, and Keith were there already.
The Pub and restaurant was quiet so apart from one other table we had the place to ourselves.
Back home the main road with a tail wind.

Angus CC Annual Lunch

On Sunday, 18 members enjoyed the annual lunch held this year at the Strathmore Arms in Glamis.
For those wanting to work up an appetite there was a short run starting at the usual time of 10am.
It was a bright sunny day but cold and frosty so avoid the freezing fog we decided to climb out of the valley up by Kirriemuir. From there it was along the Alyth road with fine views over Strathmore. There was little breeze so the cycling in the sun was pleasant as we continued along to Ruthven crossroads and down to the Bogside road. Turning right just after Blackhill farm we then crossed over the main road at Eassie crossroads then up the hill to the Newtyle road. From there it was just a couple of miles along to Glamis. The meal was enjoyed by all, and near the end the President Ron Harrow gave a short speech thanking all for attending.

The next Wednesday Night Pub Run will again be to Glamis.

Wednesday Night Pub Run

Pub run to Finavon. It was a mild night with a brisk breeze from the West. Three of us Dave, Gus , Ian set off at 7pm and headed to by Hornycross then along by Justinhaugh and Tannadice. Met Keith and Charlie there.
Came home by Oathlaw and Battledykes hard going into the wind but a goof workout.

Sunday Run to Stracathro

Sunday was mild and overcast with little wind as 7 of us set off from the leisure centre. The going was fairly easy and un-hurried as we took a route out by Horny Cross and Memus then on to Menmuir via the now deserted  Noranside Prison. After Menmuir Hall we turned up the hill by Tigerton then along the undulating road to Balrennie where we turned down through Inchbare and in the back gates to Stracathro hospital. Here we met Gus and had lunch in the canteen.

After the break we crossed the A90 and climbed steeply up the hill of Stracathro before enjoying the fine descent to Bridge of Dun. Down by the station and over the bridge we then took a wander around Kinnaird Estate exiting through the West gate.  We continued straight on, over the main road and down the Green Den track eventually emerging on to the Red Roofs road near Middle Drums. 

Back on tarmac we dropped down to Powsoddie  where we turned alongside the woods and on to the Pitkennedy road. Shortly we turned off again up by Bella Hill before descending to the Aberlemno road and back into Forfar by Lunanhead.

The Pub Run next Wednesday (11th) is to Finavon
Next Sunday is the Annual Meal at Glamis. There will be a short run first, leaving as usual at 10am

Saturday Run to Bothy

On the first Saturday of each month there is a drum up at the bothy from around 11am-1pm
The strong breeze from the west made it hard going on the road up from Forfar. However it was a sunny day and being not too cold, encouraged 14 cyclists to turn up..

Wednesday Evening Pub Run

Wednesday night was wet a miserable. Gus and Dave set off from Forfar taking the direct route out by Horny Cross. The roads were running like rivers but it was relatively warm and windy. We met Ron at the Drovers and stayed a while before returning home the same way.

Monday Club Run

With New Years Day being on the Sunday this year the weekly club run was moved to the Monday instead.

Six members turned up on a cold sunny morning, Ron, Dave, Gus, Ian, Charlie, and Brian B. We decided to head for Arbroath and we soon warmed up on the climb up the Lour Road. The back roads were looking a bit icy and the climb up Lour Hill was quite bad. Once at the top it was along by Crachie Mill  then up and around the back of Idvies and down to Pitmuies where we took the main road to Friockheim, Ron turned off here and the rest of us made our way through the village to join the back road from Boysack to St Vigeans. Just before the climb out, a car clipped Gus's bike and knocked him off and didn't bother stopping. Being in front of him we didn't notice so couldn't identify the car. Thankfully no injuries so we continued up by Meadowbank  which was closed so we headed down to Morrison's Supermarket for a coffee. Near the Abbey on a slippery footpath, Dave came off and hit the deck but was unhurt. After a warm cuppie we set off for home via Arbirlot and Carmyllie. The wind was getting stronger and was now against us making the going a bit hard especially on the exposed parts up the hill to Curleys then along to Kirkbuddo and Whigstreet. Missing out Lour Hill we kept on going down to Inverarity Kirk then back to Forfar using the cycle path alongside the dual carriageway.

The Wednesday evening pub run this week will be to the Drovers Inn.
Next Saturday 7th January there will be a run to the Bothy arriving about 11am.
The next Sunday Run on the 8th January will be to Stracathro.
