Sunday run to Pitlochry

Five of us set off from the Leisure Centre on a dry but overcast Sunday morning. We headed out of town by  Drumgley and Ballindarg to take the Bogside Road as far as Bakie Sawmill where we took the main road along to Alyth before climbing up around the Den and on to the Drimmie Road. We were passed by a group of classic cars on a rally and it wouldn't be the last time we met then along the way. After a long climb up from mains of Creuchies we enjoyed the descent down passed Heatheryhaugh then  on around by the Drimmies, Cloquhat, and down and over the Blackwater at Strone Bridge, just before it joins up with the Ardle to become the Ericht. At Bridge of Cally we turned up towards Kirkmichael, and, just before reaching it we met Ron who'd waited for us a while at Kirkmichael then decided to head for home. Not in the mood for stooping we continued up by Straloch and Glen Brerachan to start the long but gentle climb up to the Moulin Moors.

Once over the top it was a fine descent down into Pitlochry where we stopped for food at the bakers. Having enjoyed our grub we then popped into the bike shop to see if there were any bargains on offer before setting off to take the Dunfallandy road over to Logierait. At Ballinluig we took the cycle path down the east side of the A9, but first had to hurdle a fallen tree before continuing down to take the back road into Dunkeld by Craig a Barns. The run which had been reasonably pacey until then gathered speed and momentum as we took the main road by Caputh and Spittalfield to Coupar Angus where we stopped briefly to put on waterproofs as the heavens opened. Once past Ardler the rain eased and gradually stopped as we continued on by Kirkinch and Balkeerie to join the main road and head for home.
A good run 146km on the day with an average speed of around 21.3 kph. We took around 7hours 40 mins in total including 50 mins of stoppage time.

The run on Wednesday night is to Finavon.
Next Sunday the run is to Clatterin Bridge

Sunday run to Spittal of Glenshee

As usual the weather was a bit unsettled on Sunday as 5 of us set off from the leisure centre and climbed up by Turfbeg and on to the Kirrie road to make our way up by Kirrie then into Glen Isla. There was a fair headwind at times and the rain would sometimes blow through. Coming out of the glen round by Forter there were a couple of stiff climbs to contend with before we could drop down to Cray and into Glenshee. Joining the main road to Braemar, we then had 5 miles of undulating road before reaching the Spittal just in time before the heavens opened. Ron Harrow and Dave Fawcett were already there when we arrived and we stopped a while for a cuppie and scones before heading back out. From there it was down the A93 as far as Blackwater where we turned off to tackle the long climb up by Drumderg and over to Tully Murdoch. The descent was long and enjoyable and in no time we were down by Alyth Den then along by the golf courses and Shanzie to the Den of Airlie. Here we parted company with Dave Fawcett who headed up the Kaims of Airlie while we went down by Baikie Sawmill and along the Bogside road to Roundyhill where we stopped for a short break before heading home.

Heading home after a short break at Roundyhill

The next Wednesday evening run is to the Drovers at Memus
Saturday is the monthly Bothy Run
The next Sunday Run is to Pitlochry

Wednesday Evening Run to Roundyhill

Eight members of the cycling club met up at RoundyHill on Wednesday evening. Five who left from the cycling club rooms took the usual route by Heatherstacks, Balinshoe, and Maryton. For the 1st time in 6 weeks it was warm enough and dry enough to sit outside for a while and enjoy some refreshments before heading home.

Sunday Car Assisted Run 23rd July

On Sunday, four of us Gus, Norman, Charlie, and Daveh, drove up to Kenmore for a change of scene.
It was rather windy when we set off up the south side of Loch Tay but at least it was dry. On this tree lined road we were well sheltered from a strong south westerly wind and had only the steep undulating road to contend with. There were some fine views up the loch but the cloud base was fairly low with the top of Ben Lawers and other hills hidden from view. At Killin we briefly stopped for some supplies at the coop before heading out of town passed the demolished former youth hostel. Turning off along the Glen Lochay road again we wern't too bothered by the breeze in the sheltered spots. It was becoming rather damp as we started up the Hydro-board road that would take us over into Glen Lyon. The long climb was hardwork made more difficult while attempting to dodge the huge potholes. Once over the summit it was even more perilous on the speedy descent with the light rain making the road slippy and affecting visabilty. Once into Glen Lyon, the rain stopped and we enjoyed a fine tail wind down the road to Bridge of Balgie for a lunch stop at the Post Office.

After the break we took the Ben Lawers road, sheltered at first, but once out of the cover of the trees we were exposed to a blustery headwind and light rain.
On the  fast descent after the dam we had to take a bit of care as there was a classic car rally coming the other way. Once down on the main road on the north side of Loch Tay it was up into the big ring as a galeforce wind propelled us the last 9 miles or so back to Kenmore. The distance on the day was around 62 miles (100k) or so.

The Wednesday Evening Run will be to Roundyhill

The run next Sunday is to the Spittal of Glenshee

Meanwhile the B group consisting of Mary  and Tom  were also out.  They met up with Margaret Baird on the way and went to Brechin.  At Aberlemno, they passed the Harley Davidson house and there were a lot of bikers there,.  They stopped to chat and had a look around the house that is being renovated/  Apparently there were 300 HD bikers there the day before.  Margaret got them chatting to these leather clad  'big hairy' bikers while Tom showed off in his lycra!!,.
