Four of us Charlie, Gus, Norman, and Dave headed out to Glamis via Paddy School and Roundyhill. It was cold to start with but every now and then we'd notice a waft of warm air blowing in. Ron and Tom were already at Strathmore Arms where we were treated to a couple of bowls of chips. On the way home by the main road it was quite mild with a tail wind.
With Sunday being Christmas, the next run will be to the Bothy on Monday (Boxing Day) leaving from the Leisure Centre as usual at 10am.
The Pub Run on Wednesday 28th December will be to Roundy Hill.

Sunday Mince Pie Run
This Sunday saw a good turn out for the annual "mince pie" run hosted this year by Mary and Tom Ward.
Leaving from the Leisure Centre at 10am, the group headed out the main road through Kingsmuir and on to Letham. It was a glorious sunny day with little breeze and temperatures around zero as the group continued down to the Plashmill then around by Trumperton Forge and down the Milldens road then along the back roads to Guthrie. Passing Windyedge in the sunshine it just about felt warm but care had to be taken with icy patches lurking at corners and down in the hollows. After a brief pedal up the main Brechin Road, we then turned along by Glasswell, Kinnell Aerodrome, then up the side of Wuddy Law to Bolshan where we enjoyed a fine descent to the Montrose Road. Keeping to the minor roads we continued along the Muirmills road by Whanland and Egypt. From there it was back down to the crossroads at Montreathmont then in the Montrose road to Clocksbriggs where we cut across to Lunanhead. Arriving at Mary and Tom's we were treated to copious amounts of Christmas fare and a fine sociable afternoon.

Sunday Run
Sunday was a calm December day, bright and cold with dampness in the air.
10 members set off to Meikleour. Charlie, Dave, Keith, Gus, Ron, Tom, Norman, Big Jim, Ian, and Angela . Meiklour has become a bit of an annual pilgrimage for the Angus CC members due to their choice of Real Ales. The outward route took us aout along the Bogside Road as far as Meigle where Ian and Angela turned off. We then turned up towards Alyth then along the Leitfie Road passed Strathmore Golf course and down to the metal bridge at Aberbrothrie. From there it was a bit of a climb up past the old iron Chapel to the to the main Blairgowrie road.

Big Jim has no affection for steep climbs, but he managed a cheery smile never-the-less.

Once through Blair we went down the Essendy road through the standing stones and over the bridge.
At the turn-off to Meiklour the sign said "Road Closed" we followed it anyway assuming that we could dismount and push past the roadworks or obstacle. We were however prevented from progressing very far by a fallen tree, damaged power lines, and an angry worker who couldn't have kept his hair on if he'd tried. So about turn it was, following the Lethendy road down to the crossroads then back along to Meikleour. Lunch at the Coach Inn was enjoyed by all and enhanced by sampling a couple of the ales on tap. The "Jock Frost" and the "Lure of Meikleour" both got the thumbs up. Heading home by Coupar Angus we turned along the back roads by Ardler and Meigle to enjoy a bit of a tail wind. At Belmont we took a wee detour through the estate before heading to Forfar, (Kirrie in Ron's case) via Kirkinch and Balkeerie .
The Pub run on Wednesday 14th December is to Finavon.
Next Sunday Run 18th December is the Mince Pie Run hosted by the Wards. Meet as usual at the Leisure Centre at 10am for a wee run first.

Wednesday Pub Run
On a bitterly cold starry night Dave, Gus, and Charlie headed out to the Drovers Inn at Memus.
Care had to be taken on the back roads as there were icy patches and we opted for the shortest route out by Hornie Cross and Sheilhill Bridge. We met up with Ron and Tom there and headed home after an hour or so.

Sunday Run
On a bright but freezing Sunday morning, seven of us set off from the Leisure Centre for the run to Fettercairn.
The members on the run were Gus, Ron, Keith, Tom, Ian, Charlie, Dave. We left the town by Market Street and Whitehills where we joined the Old Brechin Road. Being a bus route this was well gritted and we were soon warming up as we started the long climb up from Lunanhead to Aberlemno and up Angus Hill. From the top the view over Stathmore and up towards the Mearns were spectacular. On through Brechin and Taranty we then turned up the back roads by hill of Stracathro and Muir of Pert before dropping down to cross the dual carriageway at Northwater Bridge.
Once across it was only 5 miles up by Bogmuir and Meiklehall to Fettercairn for Lunch. The food was good at the Arch restaurant but their new electronic ordering system was a bit woeful and crashed a few times.
After lunch it was into the icy wind all the way to Edzell. Luckily the sun was still high enough to add a bit of warmth as we headed down past Inchbare and through by Murlingden to Little Brechin. The back roads had a few slippy bits but not too bad as we headed home in the fading light by Carreston, Sheilhill Bridge, and Hornie Cross.

Saturday at the Bothy
On the 1st Saturday of each month there is a drum up at the bothy at around 11am.
The cycle up from Forfar was hard work at times into a strong gale.
Keith had driven up with the new generator which he tested and used to charge up the battery. The electric lights are working again and some wiring to be done for the 240v circuit. Getting prepared for the hogmanay celebrations. 11 people turned up altogether and had lunch before heading home
A bit of work was done on the end of the bothy to support the canopy when needed.

Sunday Run

Eight of us met up at the Leisure Centre for the Sunday to Auchterhouse and Ardler.
Norman, Gus, Keith, Jimmy, Ron, Ian,Charlie and Dave.
Gus had his new Spa Cycles Titanium out.
The weather had been gale force overnight and it wasn't much better today. It was bright and sunny though as we set off up the Dundee loan through the roadworks that have blighted the toon for the last few weeks. We headed out of Forfar up by Lochlands and took the path down the dual carriageway then around by Inverarity where we started the long climb up by Carrot Farm then over the hill.
With the strong westerly breeze we got a blow up then had a good run down to Kellas with fine views over the Tay. Turning off towards Duntrune we started working a we bit harder into the breeze. There was shelter in the trees down to the ponds at Duntrune which looked like they had been drained. Now exposed to the elements it was into the blast up to Powrie where we past a barn full of happy Turkeys waiting for Christmas. Continuing up the Emmock road into the gale was purgatory and we were glad of some respite when we eventually turned north towards the Sidlaws. At Balkemback it was back into the wind for 5 miles along to Auchterhouse and up the Bonnyton road. Now sheltered from the blast and mainly down hill, the next stage to Davidston and down the Glack of Newtyle was more enjoyable. A few miles later and we arrived at Ardler for lunch..
The Tav was busy with a function but we managed to squeeze into a table at the end of the room. After an enjoyable lunch we left Ardler in the sunshine, and with the breeze now at our tail, we headed home by Meigle, Kirkinch, and Glamis.
