EGM - 29/11/15

A potential turning point in the history of the club saw a small number of members meet in the club rooms on Glamis Rd.  The EGM had been called to discuss the future of the club rooms and with the low turn out, possibly an indicator of the level of interest, the meeting was fairly short with an overwhelming vote to sell the property as it is so very rarely used nowadays.

The other item on the agenda was what to do with the club trophies, again the overwhelming majority decided to gift them to the Meffan Institute where they will be held but not be available for return. Keith agreed to photograph them for David to add to the website.

With the meeting over and the snow on we decided on a wee roll out to the Dunnichen Stone for coffee and bacon rolls

It was still pretty heavy  when we were finished and most headed for home.  Ron & Chris live in Kirrie so I headed up the hill with them and Chris & I headed out to the Drovers hoping it would ease off which it did.  After a few refreshments we both headed for home with the roads pretty much clear and the sun trying to get out.

A short but momentous day for the club.

Next Sundy it's Montrose with a 10:00am start at the Leisure Centre.

Newtyle Rendezvous Ride - 22/11/15

With winter upon us and the rooftops white this morning five of us headed out from the Leisure Centre with Gus going to MacDonalds for breakfast leaving four of us to he'd out the Bogside Road, with the roads slippy pace was easy.  The sun was out though and it was warming up as we got to Miegle for a brief stop.

We turned to Ardler than trough to Newtyle where Keith headed straight home leaving three of us to go for soup but the bar was closed till 12:30 so we did an extra loop.

up  driving back about 12:50 to see Tom heading for home.  We had a good feed and refreshed we headed for home with the wind slightly behind us we may good pace,

Chris headed for home at Glamis  leaving David and I to roll into Forfar after 43 dry but chilly miles.

Next week sees the club have an EGM at the club house - 9:30 so be a ware that the run to Clova may be cut short.

Clattering Brigg - 01/11/15

The first of the 10:00am runs saw seven of us head out from the Leisure centre with the sun out and the wind at our backs we headed towards Brechin at a nice gentle pace.  The fog had lifted but there was still bit of a chilling the air so there were no jacket stops till well after Brechin.

From Brechin we headed to Marykirk  via Gallery then took the left to Fetercairn passing the Balmekewan Tea Room and Farm Shop which we might get a run to in Feb or March.

We successfully crossed the dual carriageway and headed directly to Fetercairn where Ron & Brian stopped for lunch leaving five of us to head the extra 4 miles to the Clattering Brigg.  Gus and David suggested a wee jaunt up to the ruin on the cairn o mount road so we braced our self for the climb which has a steep 16% ramp at he bottom then eases off a wee bit. When we got to the ruin Norman sailed on so we thought we may as well go too, lots of hairy caterpillars on the road enjoying a bit of heat.  It's a bit of a grind but nothing serious till near the end where there is another 16% climb with a 90 degree left turn for a couple of hundred yards.

The view was worth the climb but it wasn't till we were heading back down that we realised the strength of the wind at the top, back down and up the steep brea to the tea room where we found it to be packed full of Sunday tripers.  After brief discussion it was decided on bacon rolls at the wee shop in Fetercairn, not many years when you get to sit out in the sun for a lunch in November!

Discussions on the route home set us en-route for Little Brechin and the Drovers a the request of Chris, Gus headed for home leaving for of us to enjoy some Houston's Peter's Well and Inveralmond's Ossian.

The temperature fairly dropped once the sun had set and it was a chilly roll down into Forfar but 64 miles, a climb up the cairn o' mount and a few pints made for a good day out.

Next week it's a venture over the river and into Fife with the planned venue being the Harbour Cafe in Tayport.  This weeks pub run is to Finavon - all welcome.

Murthly - 25/10/2015

The clocks going back an hour was welcomed in Forfar with 10 members turning out at 9:00am for a run to the new bar and restaurant in Murthly - Uisge.

Having been out the Bogside Rd last week we took to the high road out by the school and followed the main road to Kirrie, then Alyth where Tom and Ron took a left to head down towards Meigle for a coffee stop leaving the rest of us to head to Blairgowrie.

We were making good progress and were a wee bit ahead of schedule so headed down towards Dunked to add on a wee bit, unfortunately Charlie got a puncture, which was fixed with the usual huge team effort of us al standing around offering advice - Gus even offered to screw the valve cap on!

We headed off after our wee break taking a left turn and went round by Loch of Clunie up the long brae and followed the road to Caputh via Glendevlon and then over the Tay and into Murthly.

The Uisge only opened a month or so ago and we had not been there as a group before, we got parked up in the posh bike racks and headed in where they were just setting up and we soon got seated in the comfy sofas with soup, beer etc. It was all tasty, if a little on the expensive side - £4.20 a pint of Strathbraan's Due South so it was only one pint for some with pudding to be had in the Tav!!

We headed off with the wind in our favour and instead of taking a left at the cemetry we continued round by Woodside and over the main road to Campmuir, as we had been in the Tav last week a suggestion was made to go the The Commercial in Newtyle where Caroline made us a fine plate of sandwiches.

From the Commercial we headed home taking a little extra mile taking a right at Douglastown and going round by Kinnetles and into Forfar - 60 miles for the first Sunday of winter was a good day out.

Next week it's a 10:00 am start  and we are heading towards the Clattering Brig all welcome.

After lunch and a few refreshments we all headed off in varying directions with some going towards Alyth and Kirrie, others Newtyle and some home directly and via Coupar Angus.

The clocks change this coming weekend but the club run remains at 9:00am with the location being the bar / restaurant in Murthly.

Club Weekend - Peebles - 03/10/15

Colleagues, please find attached pictures from the recent club weekend. We stopped at a bunkhouse just outside Peebles. The eleven participants enjoyed a ride organised by David Husband along  the Megget and Talla reservoirs in the Tweedsmuir Hills. The weather was good and the company was even better.

Glen Isla - 23/08/15

Gus was waiting with a cupee when I arrived  at the Lochside Leisure Centre followed shortly after by David, discussing the route for the day it became evident that Dave & Gus had done the Sunday run on Saturday but were happy enough to go back to the Glen Isla Hotel by a different less hilly route.

We were heading off when Tom arrived with a flat, his second for the morning so after much faffing  we headed for Kirrie via Craig OLoch Rd and Turfbeg taking the dirt track down to the A926 which we followed to Kirrie at a decent pace  turning left onto the Glen Isla Rd where we took another left onto the Alyth Rd an a right down the hill to Melgum Water followed by the long hill  and drop down to Bridgend of Lintrathen where we re grouped before heading past Peel Farm and the Bothy then taking a right to Kilry Hill.  Regrouping again at the top discussion was had on how to fill the time to get to the Hotel for 12:30, Auchavan was the outcome past Forter Castle, a wee dead end rd which neither Gus nor I had been up before.

We headed back to the Glen Isla Hotel, which is great to see busy again, for a good lunch washed down with some tasty ale and the company of a cyclist from Pitlochry who was also enjoying a good day out.

We headed home with the wind at our backs via Hornycross getting 65 miles in for our day
